    Has anyone tried sprouted coffee?

Fresh Market has sprouted coffee for sale. I didn't buy it thinking I'd ask here first.

    From the web, (sproutedcoffee.com):

Sprouted coffee is a unique coffee product made from sprouted coffee beans, offering lower acidity and enhanced nutrient absorption compared to regular coffee. What is Sprouted Coffee?

Sprouted coffee is made from coffee beans that have undergone a sprouting process before being roasted. This process involves soaking the beans in water until they begin to germinate, which can enhance their nutritional profile and alter their flavor characteristics. The sprouting process helps to break down some of the compounds that can cause acidity and digestive discomfort, making sprouted coffee gentler on the stomach.

    sproutedcoffee.com+1 Health Benefits
    1. Lower Acidity: Sprouted coffee typically has lower acidity levels, which can reduce the risk of stomach irritation and acid reflux, making it a suitable option for those sensitive to regular coffee.

      2
    2. Improved Nutrient Absorption: The sprouting process opens up the cell walls of the beans, making nutrients more bioavailable and easier for the body to absorb.

      1
    3. Smoother Flavor: Many users report that sprouted coffee has a smoother, more balanced flavor profile, often with notes of fruit and chocolate, which can enhance the overall coffee experience.

This intrigued me so I read a few published scientific studies this morning and I basically came away with that the germination process does influence the taste but much of that can be attributed to the reduction of caffeine in the final product. Thus the milder vs bitter taste and acidity marketing. There was discussion of better increased nutrients absorption by the bean, and other mentions of developing a niche market. Since the nutrient levels are so small my personal conclusion is:

1: Compare its taste to water decaffeinated coffee
2: Since I don’t drink coffee for its vitamins I’ll just take a 1-a-Day vitamin, and save my money.

I could be wrong and this is just my 2¢.

I gave coffee up several years ago because of digestive issues associated with it. I might give this a try. Isn’t it the same process as malting barley?

Since I don't like anything that is bitter, I may give this a try. However, I have a bag of coffee that is supposed to arrive today, so it may be a while.

I drink coffee for the same reason I drink whisky, it's for the taste and effect, not the nutrient absorption...

Is that akin to malted barley? Can we call it malted coffee? Surprised it's not been a thing long before now.

It does appear to be the same process.
