    Keurig cleaning

Keurig owners. What's your cleaning routine?
my keurig gets used for about 10 cups a week. Mostly coffee, but sometimes powdered cappuccino or hot chocolate.
Every few months, or when I think hmmm, haven't cleaned this in awhile, I give it a cleaning. Yesterday was that day.
My go to cleaning is to brew a couple cups of white vinegar ( I seem to remember this being how mom used to clean the Mr Coffee), followed by a couple cups of plain water, and finally a cup of joe that just gets dumped.
don't know if it actually accomplishes anything other than making me think it's clean, but who knows 🤷‍♂️
what tricks do you all have, and do you think it really makes a difference?

edit to add that mine is a single cup model, so water doesn't sit in it. I add water for each cup brewed...

We use the descaling solution, I also rub a sewing needle around the water injection thingy and usually get a coffee ground or two out. It's been a while since my new fridge has a built in Keurig and I only have the wash the pod thingy it has.

rlozinak this is the one we have, only thing I don't like is when you pop the pods sometimes a drip of coffee comes out. But I just wipe it up and whatever. I've gone through a few hundred pods since we bought the fridge and it's been an absolute champ. https://www.appliancesconnection.com...fe28pynfs.html

Descale when it tells me to, change the filter when it tells me to, use a wash pod once a week.

We like the vinegar process you outlined. Worked for our Iced Tea maker and random metal drinking bottles.

Either vinegar or descaling solution, usually vinegar. That almost always winds up clogging the the injection needle, so I keep a straightened paper clip to clear that out if/when it needs it. Don't do it nearly as often as I should...

I tried a few methods I found on Youtube and this one works best for me:

Using this, the Descale stops flashing.

Skip the vinegar and grab some citric acid crystals. Like these: https://amzn.to/3zlHBo9

Dissolve a tablespoon in quart of water and you have a great, much cheaper, descaling solution with no vinegar smell or taste (plus it works a lot better). A bonus is you can also use it for sweet and sour recipes instead of vinegar. A lot of Jewish/Polish/Eastern Europe recipes will use this for the sour (it's also known as sour salts, but costs a lot more if you buy it that way). It's also what provides the sour in sour patch candies.
