I used to always used to do Dry January and then I started doing Sober October some years as well. I like taking that break and resetting. I usually lose 5 or more pounds without trying and a lot of times when I resume drinking it's just on the weekends. As the year goes on I'm more likely to have wine on weeknights or sip whiskey in the evenings. That's been my cycle and I like it. But during the pandemic, all that went out the window. But here we are and I'm back to Sober October this year much to the chagrin of my friends that own bars and my drinking buddies.
I ordered the Mocktail below at a bar a couple of weeks ago and liked it so I copied it. It's been on rotation almost daily ever since.
I also finally made super juice. Nickle Morris the owner of Expo in Louisville, KY created this concoction and it's a game changer. It's not hard or expensive to make and it produces a better-tasting citrus juice that doesn't oxidize so it lasts much longer in the fridge than pure citrus juice. So far I have only made lime super juice but you can do it for other citrus juices as well which I will try in the future. You can do it by weight but I have been using this simple recipe thus far that I got from here: https://www.theeducatedbarfly.com/super-juice/
INGREDIENTS
8 Limes
44 g Citric Acid
8 g Malic Acid
4 cups Water
INSTRUCTIONS
Add peel of 8 limes to a large container

Juice the limes

Add the citric and malic acid and lightly muddle to mix

Let sit for an hour to extract the oils

Add lime Juice and 4 Cups of water

Blend until dissolved (we used an immersion blender)

Fine strain and your Super Juice is ready to serve

Keep refrigerated, last 1-2 weeks

Here's the Mocktail recipe:
Little Bird
In November I want to try a classic daiquiri using super juice. It's supposed to taste better than it does with regular lime juice! I look forward to verifying this.
Daiquiri
Shake all ingredients and double strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime twist.
