TGIFD Cocktail thread: Do you like Orgeat?

Well, Friday is finally here and cocktails will be made. I was thinking maybe I want one with Orgeat, a sweet almond, orange flower water (or rose water) flavored syrup. I used Orgeat in last week's cocktail the Singapore Sling. Here are some of the cocktails I'm considering. Also, if you have any cocktail suggestions with or without Oregeat, I would like to hear them. That's why I make these threads.

Do you make your own aquafaba, is it a sub for eggwhites? Do you avoid pasturized egg whites or is the aquafaba preferable for other reasons?

Yes, it's a substitute for egg whites. I am not that into raw eggs pasteurized or not so I recently discovered this great substitute. I get the aquafaba by draining the liquid from canned chickpeas. If I have leftover aquafaba I freeze it. I also like to season the garbanzo beans and air-fry them for a delicious and crunchy bar snack. So it's a real win win!

I'm definitely making the Ocean Shore because it has Orgeat, aquafaba, and Sloe Gin that I have sitting on the shelf in my bar and it rarely gets used.

Looks like you passed the test. I guess I need to get some falernum?

I read off the three cocktails (in reverse order) and asked which she would prefer. She said the last one and don't call me hoe.

I made old fashioned the way I like the...may have had too many. Fell asleep on the couch with the kids after dinner

drop 1 sugar cube in a lowball
Add a dash of bitters to the sugar cube until it turns red
stir a jar of maraschino cherries with a spoon. Use the spoon to muddle the sugar cube, but don't add a cherry (leave spoon in glass)
twist up an orange peel inside the glass, then rub it all over the rim and throw away.
add one large ice cube or whisky ball
fill 2/3 the way up with a bottled in bond bourbon
stir with the cherry spoon and remove
          Enjoy

Sounds like a good Old Fashioned technique. Nothing worse than muddled fruit floating in the drink except maybe when it's topped with soda water.

Sounds great. Very similar to my OF except I use Monkey Shoulder and leave in the cherry.

Never heard of Orgeat until I toured the Siesta Key Rum distillery and they made a Mai Tai with it. It was delicious and now I keep some in my fridge at all times.

            Siesta Key Mai Tai
1 1/2 oz. Siesta Key Spiced rum
1/2 oz. Siesta Key Toasted Coconut rum
            1 tsp Grenadine
            3 oz. pineapple juice
            2 oz. orange juice
1/2 oz. Orgeat - Recommend Liber & Co.

I might make this here in a bit. I'll have to sub the rums for what I have on hand but it should be pretty close.

Next time I make a Mai Tai I'll use top shelf rum. I can't wait until I get rid of the captain Morgan's.

            • 1/2 ounce lemon juice
            • 1/4 ounce orgeat
