Coors Light is changing its name — here’s why

On Jan. 15, Coors Light announced it would be temporarily changing its name to “Mondays Light” in solidarity with folks who party too hard on Super Bowl Sunday.

You don't fool with a thing that's working.

Still I guess any name is better than what it was called back in the 60’s. Everyone I knew back then called it Rocky Mountain Piss Water. 🙂

Colorado "Kool-Aid" is what i remember Coors beer being called in my youth. Or "The Silver Bullet" for Coors Light.

Maybe they will have the Mamas and Papas for the halftime show.

Coors Light and a name? I was on a post-school cross-country trip in 1977. We stopped at the Golden, Colorado Coors brewery for a tour and tasting. Big fun for all. At the tasting room, the guide opened things up for questions. First question: Will Coors make a "light" beer to compete with Miller Lite? Answer: "Coors already makes the perfect light beer! We will never add water to our beer to be like Miller Lite!"

I thought that was a perfect answer until about a year later when Coors added water to their beer and made Coors Light. The rest is history.

If they were being honest then they'd call it "Beer Shitz" for the Monday morning after...
