I've been entering the Texas Mead Cup since 2013. This year I sent in four entries and I won two Gold medals. I was a little stressed because I left home in a hurry and forgot my lucky shirt which I've worn every time I've won an award. Instead I wore a new shirt that a friend gave to me on Thursday so now I have to decide which one to wear next year - maybe both?
The meads that won are: my Mixed Berry Session Mead (a low alcohol carbonated mead) which is a blend of 5 berries: cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black currant, and olallieberry . The other mead is my barrel-aged Polish Trojniak which I call "Yes, It's Autumnal." The Polish mead is a blend of two batches that have been aging in Balcones Distillery Single Malt 5 gallon barrels for a year and three months. One was made with local wildflower honey, the other with sorghum honeydew. A Polish mead is high in alcohol and sweetness, usually aged for several years. I think it is my favorite style of mead: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mead_in_Poland
