I was in the Richmond area for work so I decided to visit a BBQ joint that has been on the to try list for a while...
Redemption BBQ and Market is located in the West End of Henrico County, however, they are in the process of relocating to Rockville, Va. in Goochland County.
Redemption is a small restaurant with 3 two seat tables inside and the same outside. Orders are taken at a counter and brought to you if you are eating in. They serve all of the basics Pork pulled or minced, Brisket sliced or chopped, Pork Belly, Spare Ribs, Barbecued Chicken, Beef Rib Burnt Ends, Smoked Portobello Mushroom, Cheese-steak, Redemption Burger and Hot Dogs. Plus a wide selection of scratch made sides. They also make all of their sauces from scratch. If you don't want BBQ they also sell take home and bake Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza.
Today they had two specials, one was a Chimichuri Cheese-steak. The other was their Old Virginia Pork Sandwich, which was pork sandwich with their Virginia Southside Sauce, a splash of their spicy sauce and house made slaw.
I went with Old Virginia Pork Sandwich and Baked Beans. Both were excellent. I am not usually someone that goes for slaw on my bbq, mainly because I am not a huge slaw fan, but I went with it anyway and it definitely was worth it. I was told by the person in line in front of me that the Fries are the best he has ever had since they are cooked in lard, I came very close to getting them but I almost always try the beans whenever I am at a place for the first time.
This is definitely a place to try again, especially when they get into their larger space in Goochland.
