Qdaddy's Pitmaster BBQ in Ivor VA

The weather at the beach was not great - 2 good days out of a week, but we still had a good time. We came home a day early because of the weather - SWMBO loves to lay on the beach in the sun, but that wasn't gonna happen.

The BBQ joint we normally eat at closed last year after 50 years in operation. I heard the owner, (second owner and former employee) couldn't find a buyer. That was the first place ever I had pork bbq back in '72 or '73. They had great Q, fried chicken, and some of the best onion rings I have had.

There are several other Q restaurants on that road, but we had never tried any of the, so today we stopped at the above named place. It was OK, but they sauced the meat before serving, and I really don't like that - I want to taste the pork before adding sauce. The fries were pretty good though.

If a BBQ place sauces the meat before serving it without asking me, I am immediately suspecting poor quality. It sounds like a place to miss!

Coming back from Virginia Beach or the Outer Banks? Had some business in Chesapeake and Suffolk this week. Glad it was earlier this week as a tractor trailer decided to drive off the Bay Bridge Tunnel today and that really messed up northbound traffic.

From the OBX. We prefer 460 to I64, and it's the fastest route anyway.

RonB I have had catering from the QDaddy's in Smithfield. It wasn't pre-sauced and was decent for drop off catering. I want to go and try the restaurant at some point.

What was the place that closed?

RonB I am familair with Cowling's, never went there. Usually if I am in that area I will hit up the Virginia Diner...

BKYDBBQ - I preferred the fried chicken at Cowlings, and I loved the Q there too. It was always a hard decision as to which to get.
