    We Snowed last Saturday.

    We were in Austin last week visiting our son. I get to pick a Q joint when we visit, and this time it was Snows in Lexington. Previous picks were Franklin and La Barbeque, and both were very good with Franklin having an edge for us. Please note that it's really hard to compare when visits are a year apart.

    We arrived at Snows about 10:30 Sat morning, and there were only four or five people in front of us. We bought both point and flat for the brisket and 1/2 rack of ribs. We also bought some turkey and a half chicken. For sides, we got cole slaw and potato salad.

    I don't remember having better brisket anywhere. My wife is not a big brisket fan, but she loved it too. The ribs were very good with a noticeable tug to get them off the bone. The chicken has a crisp skin, but was a bit dry - they cooked it low and slow for about 8 hours. I'm not a turkey fan, so I didn't try it, but not much got eaten. Sides were enjoyable but not super. We forgot to get any sausage, but my son bought some more brisket and some sausage before we left. He had not tried the sausage when we left.

    We met Tootsie, and took some photos and had a great time. It was worth the hour drive, but as with the other two Austin joints we have visited, I'd rather try another restaurant than return to a place we have been.

    We also went to Via 313 next to the original Black's Barbeque. I kinda wanted to try Blacks, but the Detroit Style Pizza at Via is super, so that's where we ate. I don't know how authentic it is, but we all really liked it. Click image for larger version

    Sounds like a good day. Next time in Austin I recommend a stop by Valentina’s for true Tex-Mex BBQ.

      Thanx! My son took us to his favorite Mexican place - I can't remember the name though...

      If I had my way while visiting Austin, we would alternate between Q and Mex/Tex-Mex the whole week. Maybe throw in a trip to Hopdoddy, Via 313, and Tumble22.
