    Kafi BBQ- Irving, Texas

Sorry no pics but me, son and DIL went to Kafi BBQ in Irvine, TX for dinner Friday night. Kafi smokes Halal Wagyu Beef, Texas Lamb Ribs, and Pasture Raised Organic Chicken, no pork. It's only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Credit Card only. We shared Brisket, Chopped Brisket Sandwich, Oxtail, Texas Twinkies, Iraqi Sausage, Cole Slaw, Smoked Gouda Mac n Cheese, Maine Root Sodas to drink and Cardamon Banana Pudding. Brisket and Oxtail were great, Texas Twinkie was great, spicy, wrapped in Beef Bacon with great proportions of ingredients. Chopped Brisket with Cole Slaw Sandwich was good, Iraqi sausage was good. Smoked gouda Mac n Cheese was ok to good. The Cardamom Banana Pudding was good but different, custard like in texture. All the portions were good in size. The Normal and Spicy BBQ sauces were good. The various Maine Root Sodas were great and sweet. Lots of families with kids and crowded at 6:20 pm for dinner. Next time I want to try the Lamb Ribs and the Pomegranate-Glazed Burnt Ends. As Always, YMMV

Very good. My dinner was so filling that I didn't eat again until lunch on Saturday.

$50 per lb for brisket? I'm a sucker for banana pudding. No pork ? that's odd.

I'm guessing the cost for Halal Wagyu brisket is pretty high.

Given the cost of wagyu beef, especially halal wagyu beef, and the amount of weight lost in the trimming and cooking processes, that $50/lb for brisket may be under priced.

I keep trying lamb over and over... and I honestly keep not liking it. I doubt I'll spend money on it again. Last few times has been at some of the churrascaria places like Texas de Brazil and Brasão and Fogo de Chao, but... I keep giving it a try, and I'm always disappointed. <shrug>

And this article came across in one of my trade newsletters

Even as anti-Muslim rhetoric rises in Texas, Muslim pitmasters are winning over diners and reshaping one of the state's most iconic culinary traditions.

Kafi BBQ was very good and very busy with families and some kids. I will go back.
