Today I realized that I haven't been to a steakhouse in TX (at least not that I remember). Had to fix that. I thought this was a local place, but it turns out it is a chain. I had an order of range rattlers, jalapeños stuffed with shrimp and jack cheese, a NY strip with a salad and baked potato. The jalapeños were excellent. The steak was above average, cooked a perfect medium. The potato was small but good. My body craved that salad. The lettuce was fresh and crisp. The highlight was the grand old fashioned made with buffalo trace. It was a really good drink. All in all, a good meal.

Saltgrass ain’t bad at all Kev! I ate at one a couple of years ago and yeah, those range rattlers are pretty good. I ordered my steak medium rare and they served it just as ordered, mine was above average too, really liked it.

It's nice (and sadly rare these days) when a restaurant gets everything right that way. I'd love to know the method for preparing those range rattlers - specifically how they get the Jalapeño soft without overcooking the shrimp.

It’s a different experience. If everything goes well, at a good restaurant with good servers and a good kitchen, it’s worth it. (If you like that stuff; another person might consider $50 for a round of golf, at a good course, a great deal, but you couldn’t pay me to go.) The actual sad part is that it doesn’t always go well, and you spent $50 and felt ripped off. You aren’t buying the steak, you’re buying the experience, and didn’t get it.

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I’ve heard that Saltgrasses were pretty good steakhouses. They aren’t franchises, so quality is controlled by the owner, in this case Landry’s. That’s a good thing, IMO; there are a lot of franchisees who think they can just write a check and then go on vacation while the money rolls in.
That looks like a damn good strip steak. I prefer strips to ribeyes. Not sayin’ I’d turn my nose up at a ribeye, though. I wouldn’t complain.

Looks like a great dinner! Surprisingly, we have a few chain steakhouses around here that do a pretty good job on their steaks and sides. I'm assuming there's a good head cook watching over things, generally.
Although the waitresses always look at me funny when they ask, how do I want my steak, and I say 132 to 135.

Their desserts are incredible too! I’m not a big dessert eater but even if I’m too full I’ll get one to go from there. Their carrot cake is one of the best sweets I’ve ever eaten. I’m not even a fan of carrot cake but theirs is in a league of its own. The cheese cake and chocolate cake are both incredible too. They also make the best pork chop I’ve had in a restaurant. Several of us have bought their rub. It’s called SaltGrass 7 Steak Spice. I really like it too. I don’t often rave about a restaurant because like so many here we can usually do better at home. That is not the case here.

Yup - another thing I never do. lol
Someone asked me the other day when they found out I'm a BBQ guy and I build smokers and I do (some) online content, etc., where my favorite place to get BBQ was. My answer, of course, was, "My house." No one else does it like I do, and I SURE as hell don't like paying retail prices for something I do as well or better. <shrug> Heading to TX to drop off a smoker and a guy wants to get BBQ together - I'm already dreading it. lol

There is a really friendly place in Seguin that Q's well n the sides are tolerable. Or even Lockhart where they pass out cold beer to those waiting in the rain. JS
