For the love of tartar sauce, please tell me you didn’t put ketchup on the fish….

also, how far west do they have shops? Wonder if my sissy has been here….. (Greenville/Hunt County)

Well, Catfish King (The location in tyler) is the 3rd best catfish in town. First is Clear Springs, 2nd Happy's Fish House, then David beards. That being said its the worst of his catfish joints I have ever eaten at. Catfish Village in Waskom is fantastic. Some nostalgia here though. Whenever ever out and about with my Granfather, if we were anywhere near a David beards at lunch or dinner time, that is where we ate...always.

texastweeter I would if I could.
I love to fish, and I won't fish at our local lake. It, like many other lakes, doesn't have the fresh water supply, lacks oxygen during summer and gets blue-green algae. I think it is primarily a catch and release lake. The beaches aren't pleasant either. It is good for birds and bird watching, though.

I love fried catfish. Unfortunately here in WI, nope. Never seen up here. At least never seen by me. I lived in NC for about 5 years and got hooked on it. Yum. Oh, and tartar sauce only please. 😊

Oak Smoke there are some in Caddo lake. When I was young, we would occasionally catch them; we had no idea what they were and throw them back.

texastweeter I’ve caught 3 in my life. All were by accident, one while bass fishing and two while crappie fishing. A friend had told my they were in the lake I was fishing. He had warned me about their teeth and said they were good eating. When I caught one I remembered not to lip it like a bass! They are delicious.

Since I live in the 11th or 12th (roughly) most non-Texas state in the US, I have not tried their catfish, needless to say. But I will say Cracker Barrel's "Uncle Hershel's Breakfast" with catfish as the protein, where available, is awesome.

I love me some fried catfish! My favorite way is with Louisiana Brand breaded mix. If you can get this, generously mix in some Tony’s before rolling the filets in it.

Season the fillets with toneys and extra black pepper and let sit on wire rack for about 2 hours (if you can wait) then dip in buttermilk and roll in 3 parts cornmeal 1 part flour. Deep fry until GBD.
