Wife and I are going to Galveston to spend a week on the beach next month. Looking for recommendations for "must try" restaurants, especially fresh seafood. And of course, BBQ.

Gaidos for seafood. Period. -
I used to live in Galveston from around 1987-1990 and am familiar with several of the restaurants there…..but I haven’t visited the place since moving back to Houston in 1990. Here’s a few places that you might like, and they’re popular with the locals as well as tourists.
Katie’s Seafood Restaurant. Lots of good reviews, but I haven’t eaten there.
Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s been a while but I did eat there back in the day. 👍
Shrimp n Stuff. 2 locations. Good food on the less expensive side. Good poboys! I ate there back in the day.
I remember liking Gaido’s when I lived there, but it’s a big tourist spot. I’ve heard the food can be hit or miss, but pretty darn good when they’re on their game.Last edited by Panhead John; August 15, 2025, 02:58 PM.Comment

For BBQ, this is supposed to be THE place. I’ve heard good things about it and it gets excellent reviews. One reviewer even said that…Texas Monthly needs to visit the place.

I was going to recommend Mosquito Cafe just down from the Bishop's Palace but I just went to their webpage and they announced in May that they were "temporarily" closing and haven't opened back up. Too bad, they made one of the best cheese burgers that I've ever had.Comment
