Michelin Guide Goes for Texas BBQ

Hey guys, not sure how many were aware but the Michelin Guide did their first ever awards in Texas. BBQ came up huge!

Interstellar, La Barbecue, LeRoy & Lewis, and Corckscrew BBQ all got one star! A freaking Michelin star!!!

Barbs BQ, Briscuits, Franklin’s, KG BBQ, Micklewaith Meats, Blood Bros BBQ, Cattleack, Goldee’s, Pickertons’, The Pit Room, Truth, Killen’s BBQ, Burnt Bean Co, Rosemeyer Bar-B-Q, all were awarded BIb Gorumands.

And finally, Terry Blacks in Austin, Panther City, 2M Smokehouse, Barbecue Station, Brisket and Rice, and Smoke’N Ash all got a Recommendation.

It’s amazing to me how far BBQ has come in the world of cuisine. Now it can stand on equal footing with some of the finest dining experiences in the world!

Here are the links to see the full lists for those interested!

The first MICHELIN Guide Texas selection has been revealed, and it features 15 one-MICHELIN-Star establishments and two MICHELIN Green Star eateries. The

Too bad that Barbs BQ did not get a star. During our Meat-Up a few months ago, thought Barbs BQ was the best of the 6 BBQ restaurants we visited, which included Interstellar and LeRoy & Lewis.

    Congrats to all the restaurants.

Barbs and KG are probably my favorite bbq joints right now. They are both putting out such amazing food. What did you have at barbs?

sarredon Here are my notes from the Meat-up regarding Barbs BQ
+ Best overall BBQ restaurant we visited
      - Brisket (best I had in Texas)
      - Pork Ribs (very good. Lime zest over ribs - genius)
      - Lamb Chops (Cooked to Medium. Perfect and delicious)
      - Did not have the green spaghetti (did not come to Texas to eat side dishes)

Eaten at 8 of those mentioned above.

I haven't eaten at many (yet) but if they are that much better than the Burnt Bean then I'll be in BBQ heaven. Burnt Bean is the best I have ever had. I think I may have mentioned this a few times lol

Michelin picking BBQ? I think members here can do a better job. Michelin’s criteria is not just the food. And for me at least it’s all about the food.

I too wonder how their hoity-toity standards will work in BBQ joint judgment.

Yes, particularly their focus on service, atmosphere, formal dining, etc. From my experience the best BBQ places are the ones where you wait in line, eat on paper plates and use plastic utensils. And much like Wine Spectator, there’s a pay to play element.
