I thought it was delicious brisket, however, I didn't have to wait in line since my wife did (I was at a golf school with our son) . Think there are lots of good places to eat eat there though. We also ate at Loro, an asian fusion place that Aaron Franklin and Tyson Cole opened together. The food was good. It has been several years, however, we enjoyed it all.
I'd love to try it sometime, but there's not a snowball's chance in hell I'm going to wait in line that long. And I can't be responsible for what I might do if the line cut off a couple of people in front of me after several hours of waiting.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
While I would love to try Franklin's, and might wait in line drinking beer if it's just me, my wife would NEVER, EVER want 5-6 hours to eat anything. She doesn't like waiting 30 minutes at a restaurant!
I think I would be looking for some BBQ restaurants farther down the list from Franklin's, Snow's and the top spots. There is still a lot of great BBQ in Texas. I had some really good BBQ at Hard Eight up near the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport, on a business trip. It was in an industrial park area, and pretty sure it's not on even the top-50 list for Texas. And from what I read, everything but their brisket is smoked on rotisserie smokers... gasp!
As good as it may be, I wouldn't wait in line that long for 'que. Maybe once upon a time, but now I'll just mosey along and find some place else. There's a lot of people out there making wonderful 'que.
I would stand in line for that brisket. After reading and hearing so much about it, I gotta find out for myself. That's the only way I'm gonna know if its hyperbole or truly great.
I doubt if I'd do it a second time, no matter how good it was.
