As some of you might know, our ol’ buddy 58limited lives just about 10 minutes or so from my Mom’s house. We hook up occasionally when I’m in town. Well this morning I finally got to try some excellent BBQ from Red Bird BBQ in nearby Port Neches,Tx. I met David there at about 10:30 this morning. 58limited has posted a few times about this place and has become good friends with the owner, Amir, and his employees. You might recall David mentioning in his posts that Amir worked at Texas Monthly’s #1 BBQ spot in Texas, Goldee’s BBQ up in Ft. Worth, for about a year and a half. He opened his own place late last year. When I arrived this morning and met David, we were about #6 and #7 in line. By the time they opened at 11, the line had easily tripled in size.
I got the sampler plate which featured a 1/4 lb. of each of their meats, which included: pork ribs, brisket, sausage, smoked turkey and chopped beef. There was NO WAY my plate was only 1/4 lb. of each! I think being in line with David, might have influenced their weighing skills….😉 I’m not exaggerating when I say that my plate could have probably fed 3 people! I chose fatty brisket and Amir added a slice of flat to the pile, gratis! 2 large pork ribs, several slices of turkey, a full link of sliced sausage and a large scoop of chopped brisket came on the plate. My sides were some excellent cheesy scalloped potatoes and red beans and rice, and a Dr. Pepper to drink. My total with tip was $57.71.
I could easily tell by the quality of the food that this wasn’t their first rodeo in BBQ! It was all very good to excellent, sides too. But I gotta say something here, their BBQ sauce was absolutely some of the best sauce I’ve had anywhere! It had a fantastic flavor and was unlike any I’ve had before, kind of a Texas Meets North Carolina style…….👍👍 I rarely use a sauce when eating good Q’, but this stuff was so good, I used some on almost every bite I took. Here’s a few pics……
