Best BBQ Joints Near Downtown Nashville

I am heading to Nashville and staying downtown.

Anyone recommend the best BBQ joints near downtown Nashville?

I have been to a couple of places in downtown Nashville, but no bbq places. The only place that made an impression was assembly hall. And I have been to Hattie B's Nashville hot chicken.

When i think about it, i have been to lots of places in Nashville, but no bbq, and none were really memorable.

I was in Nashville several years ago and went to Peg Leg Porker and Martin's BBQ Joint...Martin's has several locations in the Nashville area.

If I make it back to Nashville I would definitely go back to both of them.

Martin's is a Whole Hog joint, Peg Leg is known for its ribs...

eta...Peg Leg has an Aquarium Smoker which is something not seen very often...

From what I've seen online definitely Martin's.

I was in Nashville in 2011 and got stuck going to Italian restaurants. Barf!

Been twice - I enjoyed Edley's and Peg Leg Porker.

I used to go to Nashville regularly for work and at that time it was kind of a dead zone for BBQ. Which was a shame with Memphis also in the state. This has been 15 years ago, so maybe its improved. Definitely check out real Nashville Hot Chicken though, whether Hattie B's or Prince's. Probably some others are good as well. That is out of sight and nothing I've had outside of Nashville compares.

I always check for triple D joints in whatever area I visit. Martin's was on the list, and was great, ate there several times. I can't quite remember, but I think we've been to Hattie B's, as well. I really liked the Nashville hot chicken, but I can't get anyone to go back there.

The trouble is, the Philistines I go there with, have very limited palettes and usually shoot down any of my suggestions...

Jerod Broussard You mean, me, myself, and I? That would work! As far as "another David", I think the Cult of Dave rules state that there can't be two of us in the same place at the same time.

I was at Peg Leg a few years ago. I thought it was terrific.

Haven’t been yet - planning to go this week - but I’ve heard nothing but great things about Shotgun Willies - supposed to be legit Texas-style barbecue. It’s just north of downtown in Madison TN.

I was there years ago for a work conference. We stayed at the Omni and I ate at Martins everyday. Good BBQ and cold beer. Hard to beat and the location was great.
