    Charlie Vergo's Rendezvous

I went to Charlie Vergo's Rendezvous for lunch today. The ribs were just OK, a little dry and different because of the rub they use. It has more of a Greek feel. But they must have designed the sauce just to fit that flavor profile because adding it elevated the ribs quite a bit. The brisket was outstanding. Moist and tender, great flavor. It came with beans and slaw, both of which I enjoyed. The slaw was a mustard/vinegar based slaw that I have never had before. It was worth the trip, but I am sure there are better options. The waiter recommended Paynes for the BBQ bologna sandwich, and everybody recommended Cozy Corner. I picked some stuff from them for dinner. I'll post after I eat. I forgot about the best BBQ in Memphis post. And I'll find a Gus' chicken before i leave. I’ve eaten at Rendezvous before. Their ribs are good but different. They are more grilled than smoked, and the story as to how they got started doing ribs is almost accidental. Clearly Charlie didn’t know anything about BBQ. He was offered a cheap cut of meat and hit on a way to cook it that peopled liked. Their red beans are different from the ones I grew up with in New Orleans. But, they are good in a different way. It looks like you are going to eat your way home! LOL

We ate there donkey years ago. Sounds like they're still doing great with their ribs with a different vibe. We enjoyed our meal there.

Enjoy moseying along that whiskey trail on the way home, Kevin. klflowers

This reminds me that it's been too long since I've made Vous ribs.

I’m a big fan of Central BBQ in Memphis. It’s a mandatory stop anytime I’m in town.

Their dry baby backs are what started my quest for rib perfection. Still the best ribs I’ve ever had that didn’t come out of my pit.

I've had Central before. Word around here now is that since they have franchised, quality has slipped. I won't get a chance to check them out this trip

Agree with klflowers the rendezvous is just ok. BUT, you had me at Gus’s (yes, I spelled that correctly). Lordy, I love this chicken. I was thrilled when they opened a few locations here. When we were in Memphis, I went twice! The second time I kept staring into the kitchen to see how they did the chicken. 🤪

I'm not going to make Graceland. I know it is probably un-American. But I was never a big Elvis fan. And I went to interstate years ago. I wasn't impressed either
