    One Dinner in Memphis: Where?

Lisa and I will be in Memphis for a short trip in early December. We will be on our own on the Saturday evening. Where should we eat?

I am a Memphian. So a few questions:

    Are you talking BBQ? Or?

What part or town will you be in?

Thanks. We want some BBQ. We will have a car, so can get anywhere. Since we'd like to catch some blues, too, I'm assuming the downtown area will be best.

+1 on Gus's chicken. I liked the BBQ Shop and Interstate BBQ. My oldest spent 3 yrs in law school in Memphis. Just be careful of where you are, it is rough. Maybe it is better now.

They opened up a store here in B’ham a few years back. Legit fried chicken, some of the best. Highly recommend

Just be careful where you go. Memphis is a dangerous city.

Says the 6 foot 5 guy built like a brick shit house, lol. When you got fists the size of cinderblocks, your safe prettymuch anywhere, lol

texastweeter there are areas in Memphis I won't even go armed. It has been a few years - I have family there - but I don't think it has changed much.

First place I eva saw "Cop ina Box", elevated 25-30 feet in a major intersection.

Jim, I would hop in the car right now and drive seven hours to Memphis to eat at Cozy Corner Bar-B-Q. It's a mom and pop establishment and they do Memphis style ribs. Sides are amazing as well as the other BBQ offerings.

It’s been 10+ years since I’ve been there, but Central BBQ was outstanding!

Okay, we went all in on the the expected for our free day in Memphis. First, a little sightseeing.

And of course, Rendevous. Such an iconic place. The vibe once you go through the alley and down into the basement takes you back to 1948, when it opened.

They are set up very efficiently. Menu is under the clear tabletop.

The ribs are of course dry rub only and are grilled direct over charcoal. They were fine. The brisket was solid. Lisa’s pulled pork sandwich was also good. But the slaw and beans were spectacular!

What was your favorite room in the house? For me, I can’t get past the front room that was mostly all yellow!

SheilaAnn I sent the creepy Teddy bear in the back den to our daughters in the family chat, telling them to sleep well.

I’ll try to add the photo above.
