Just asked an in-law from Regina for you. They like Jack Keaton’s BBQ. Never been to Keaton’s personally so I can’t vouch for their suggestion.

I did a number of weeks in Calgary for business this winter. I ate in some good steak places. I can’t say I noticed any BBQ places.

Billings is pretty lacking when it comes to dedicated, uncommercialized BBQ. There's a back of gas station place called Blues BBQ up in the "Heights" region that puts out some pretty good meat, and a restaurant called CJ's on the "West End" that isn't BBQ-specific, but does offer BBQ meats smoked over mesquite. Both decent if not spectacular. If you get further west in Montana though, check out Bad Betty's BBQ in Helena or Notorious P.I.G. in Missoula. Both of those joints are excellent at least by relative standards.
