Most important line from the article. "Ultimately, any such selection is highly personal and subjective."

Yep, highly personal and subjective to the author(s) of the article you're reading.

#5 Allen & Son leaves me scratching my head. It’s certainly good, but absolutely not a "destination" spot IMHO - so how can it be ahead of Franklin’s at #7? I don’t even think I’d recommend it as the best joint in the Triangle. 🤔 Nice to see so many from the Carolinas tho! 👍🏻

I think it is cool to see that Scott’s got number one.

I am surprised that sime were ranked as low as they were and some as high as they were.

I agree though that BBQ is personal when it comes to taste preference and also regional. Doesn’t always seem fair to lump them all together. Obviously the Carolinas have a different profile tha Kansas City and so on....

Ever read an article on the 'best bands of the last 50 years' or similar? I shake my head and scoff at 90% of the results. These things are way too personal to really be taken too seriously by the masses.

I love LC’s in Kansas City. They boast of the best burnt ends in KC, and for my money, they definitely live up to that claim!! Just the right amount of smoky char, and soft like butta!!

This is supposed to be "The South’s Top 50 Barbecue Joints 2018." I'm not sure how anyone can consider Kansas City in the South.

I am going to be in Kansas City on Monday. I hope to hit this place up. Thanks for the Rec!

Southern living has run other lists in the past and many of those aren’t on this list. I have only eaten at three on this list - one of which I would consider middle of the road, another I would say was slightly above the middle and the other below the middle. I have eaten at a number of joints on other Southern Living lists which were mostly disappointments and one was the worst BBQ I have ever eaten. Sometimes I think the choice has to do with a fond memory eating there that has more to do with those at the meal than the meal itself.

Well, sad to say i’ve only been to two on this list (Big Bob Gibson’s and The Rendezvous). I’ve been to some great places over the years that aren’t on the list as well. I’ve gotten to the point that most times when I eat out I don’t want BBQ unless it’s somewhere I know is really good. The Pit has gotten me to the point where I would rather eat my own ribs/brisket/pork/chicken than most I get out.

Me, too. The best BBQ is in someone’s backyard, and it is probably yours.

Even worse, not one of those MacRibs joints made the cut ... what are they called again??

Dunno, they got rid of the clown and now the name won't ring a bell

So many good bbq joints it's mind boggling. I say road trip !!! Let's try each and everyone then choose !!!

Some notables for me, City Market in Lulling, Texas. Often overlooked by the other Hill country favorites, it's a tried and true favorite of mine.

Also like sing the praises of some locals on the list here in Houston. Tejas Chocolate (don't let the name fool ya !!) is outstanding as well as Corkscrew in the Spring area. His brisket is as good, if not better, than Franklins....really !!!

Good places on there, good places not on there. Can you really do it justice with less than a top-500?
