Sorry, but there is no Hot Dog stand in this world worth getting on a plane or driving over 30 minutes to get to.....IMHO.
Pinks in Los Angeles has a long and rich Hollywood celebrity history. But it is over 30 minutes to get to for me.

Please refer to my previous statement of the Vienna brand of hot dogs. They are my personal fav. Here in LA, I love my Portillo's, which is a a Chicago transplant and they use Vienna. I’ve never been to Pinks (LA friends, sorry…. I know, it’s stupid). And I bet the farmers market peeps use Hoffy brand for the Sonora dogs.
when I am not grilling my own dog, I make them the way Violet (my grandma) did. Slightly simmer, turn off the heat, cover and let them steam for about 3-5 minutes.

Oh, and to answer bbqLuv question, I remember a place called Nick’s on Archer Avenue south of Central. My grandpa and grandma got those a lot when we visited. They would put the hotdog in the bag and then fill the bag with skinny fries!
weiner Circle on Clark south of Wrigley,
it’s no longer there, but there was a hot dog stand next to Pippins off Chicago Ave and rush street. The bomb. I used to work at pippins, so we ate there a lot.

Portillos just opened a location not too far from me in Kennesaw and I love it. There are also two other good places near me that I hit up a lot: The Original Hot Dog Factory in Smyrna, and Brandi's World Famous Hot Dogs which is in Marietta but is only open for Mon-Fri during lunch hours. Fortunately, Brandi's is close to where I work, so I'm able to hit it up once a week or so.
