    Catfish Round-Up

Well I’m not gonna say this is my favorite restaurant but we enjoy staying here and eating when rolling. RV spot and two catfish dinners came to $53. Bread n butter, hush puppies, catfish, fries or coleslaw and apple fritters for desert. We could not plate all we were given. It is great road food, didn’t have to cook or clean!
They had an interesting assortment of spices for sale too.

Ohh man, I've eaten catfish there too many times to count. I grew up in Seminole, which is 9 miles south of there. And my Dad who still lived there, loved the Round Up. Every time I go home to visit, Dad took us to the Round up.

But honestly, Dad's catfish was better. Our family catfish tradition went back into Arkansas, where my Uncles would go to the White River to get the catfish. They said there were none better than White River catfish.

And they had a big cast iron kettle, they would fill half up with grease. And build a wood fire under the kettle. They would throw an unlit match into the grease and when the match lit, the grease was hot enough to for the fish. Seasoning was yellow corn meal, very simple, not a big thick batter. It was delicious.

And my Grandad's farm was 1 mile south of the Round Up, and 1 mile east. That's area is really in my roots.

That's exactly what happened at a fish camp in MS when I was a kid.

My Dad passed in 1996. The Round Up has had to be there since maybe the late 70's, so it really is a memory.

I don't get that way very often , any more.

Too far south for me. I grew up catching catfish in northeastern Oklahoma. Lived in Claremore.

The Bullshit rub is my main rub for beef. The Goodshit is tasty, too. They are available at the Hasty-Bake Store in Tulsa but are a couple of bucks higher than most rubs. They're worth it, though!

Those rubs are terrific. I use the Chicken one all the time, and the "No Sh_t" is the same rub without salt. Absolutely fantastic.
