Always good to note a few places I may go past in my travels, but one that would never make any nationally renowned list is the joint less than a mile from my house in little East Troy, Wisconsin. LD's BBQ
Me and the wifey had lunch at LD’s yesterday. Outstanding as usual!!
Wednesday is meatloaf day and she had the sandwich. I had the “Original Platter.” Incredible. I should have taken pics and posted. Sorry. 🤦♂️
I only been to Aaron Franklins from this list but recognize a few others that some in the group have spoke highly of. Perhaps I will be able to get to them one day
Moonlite Bar-B-Q Inn – Owensboro, Kentucky I live 20 miles from it, don't go for BBQ, there deserts are good. Thumbs down, On the Q, it's been at least 10 years since eating there. If that tells you anything.
Pit Barrel Cooker
Weber Master-Touch
Blackstone Omnivore 4 Burner Griddle
Thermoworks: Signals, Billows, Thermopens, Thermopops, Nodes, bunch of silicone stuff, and more!
OnlyFire Rotisserie w/ Basket attachment for the Weber
Vortex for the Weber
Both of Meathead's books!
Way too many BBQ related accessories, tools, and doo-dads!
Ah, Barbs-B-Q in Lockhart, Tx did not make the list. Having gone to the San Marcos Meat-Up twice, Barbs was the best of all the BBQ joints (which included Interstellar and Burnt Bean) I visited. Both times. IMHO.
No kidding? Wow. That's good to know. I mean, since I'll never actually find out myself. lol It's all academic, I live vicariously through my keyboard these days. lol
Thanks for sharing. Top 5 were in Texas no doubt using stick burners - I suppose the others were too simply due to the ability to expand a pit as needed. I am working my way through Aaron Franklin’s first book which describes the history of his rise from barbecue in the backyard to the enterprise Franklin is today.
While I have a pellet grill, a yoder 640, and Mr. Franklin exclusively barbecues on wood, the concepts that I am cleaning from Franklin‘s technique, at least on the meat and other aspects of course do not transcend it into a guy with a pellet smoker in the backyard.
I have barbecued for many years on various rigs. But now I have a pellet smoker as I simply want a balance of convenience in flavor. I had a stick burner in the past but the days as I age of tending all night fires just simply do often work for me any longer as a primary cooker.
coming from Maryland, I guess the best thing that you can say we get close to in terms of barbecue is pit beef. And the best around is from Chaps on Pulaski Highway in Baltimore. Definitely not Q for sure but damn good in its own right.
Would love to see places up in the northeast (if they exist 🙂) make some sort of list - good, bad, or otherwise. Absent barbecue in this area, we do crabcake restaurant, comparisons!
