My sister has pretty much decided to retire in Panama; she has the visa and an apartment at this point. She is trying to get me to join her, so i came down to check the place out. Today we ate at a restaurant called Michael's. Great food. I had the Panamanian. The beef was superb, the only thing wrong was the bottom of the eggs were a little scorched. The plantains, the fried cheese, the tortillas were excellent. And the owner is from Detroit. My sister had chicken and waffles - there is a small piece of chicken on my plate. The chicken was great too.

Retiring in Panama is not a bad idea they have a diversified economy unlike Costa Rica (my parents are Costa rican) so they have the beauty of Costa Rica, solid economy, plus you get state of the art healthcare for between 150 and 300 a month -
I lived in Panama for a year about 2010-2011 on loan to the government from my organization. Really enjoyed it. All the amenities, great people, beautiful country. Very good healthcare. Yes, there are few places to avoid, especially at night in the city, but no more than some of our large cities. Great thing is that Tocumen airport is home base for Copa and they at least use to have direct flights to Miami and Dulles. This post got me to remembering those days.
