The first I heard of Buc-ee's was on Amazing Ribs. I took notice when this popped up on Fox news, 12 KPTV.
I just had to share. If and when I get to make a BBQ tour this is on the list.
Never been to one but my cousins in the UP have traveled south by car and do seem to enjoy them. Just looks like an oversized convenience store but they mention unique things in the store that they like.
I went to the one in New Braunfels, TX a few years ago...... from the outside it does look like an oversized convenience store, but once you're inside it's clear that it's much more than that. It's a blend of a convenience, sporting goods, and hardware store with BBQ grills, accessories and food. It's quite the experience.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

From what I've observed watching videos and reading articles about Buc-ee's is that they are so huge that they simply do not care because it will not matter in the slightest. Like Walmart or Amazon, lots of haters (deserved or not or a combo of the two) but no one cares and they continue to thrive.
Do people really send complaints to BBB? Surprised that they’re still around. I would have thought that Yelp, Google, and social media would have killed them off.
BBB ratings are meaningless. The only way to not get an F rating is to buy into their protection racket. Not a ‘member?” Then any complaint that ends up in front of them will get the business in question an F rating. It’s a scam and any business with a decent management team should avoid them.
+2
What you posted is true, it's like the best BBQ is the BBQ you like.
We also use read reviews as a "Rule of Thumb".
So far, the best restaurant reviews are the ones with the most cars park in front.
I am a fan. Mostly because it is easy to get the RV in and out. Plus, their cookies are excellent. The coffee is not bad. And the bathrooms are spotless. I am not exaggerating.
As above, the Better Business Bureau is a joke. It's just like the Who's Who Among American High School Students or whatever - they invite you to buy their book and they'll put your name in it to be 'recognized'. BBB is even worse, because they literally extort businesses if they don't pay to join them - and this is a blatant example.
As for Buc-ees... well... it's impressive, I'll give them that much. I pass one fairly frequently in Springfield, MO, but I've only stopped once (at that one). I wanted to try their brisket sandwich. I ended up tossing it after 3 bites - one wasn't enough to wipe away my amazement that this was something people ENJOYED??? Ugh. I don't bother anymore, just because the scale is SO huge, it's a 20-minute ordeal just to go to the bathroom and get a cup of coffee. I don't like running the gauntlet, and I'm not shopping for souvenirs. If people want to, I'm fine with that, and if I've got the family with me or something, we might stop, just because we can get anything anyone could want all in one place - I'm less picky or needy, personally, I guess. lol I've stopped at others in TX, but it's rare these days - just doesn't fit my personal needs, I guess.
As for the BBB, they can go pound sand.
And the news article... lol. Funny.
That story is on "FOX12 Oregon" - based in Portland.
The CLOSEST Buc-ee's location to them is 1,203 miles away in Johnstown, CO - 18 hours by car.
Now... why do you suppose a local new station in Portland, Oregon would give 2 schitts enough to publish a story about an extortionist company (BBB) giving a poor rating to a company like Buc-ee's (based essentially in TX) that refuses to acknowledge their existence?
I can't even begin to imagine the reasons such a thing would happen...
Pit Barrel Cooker
Weber Master-Touch
Blackstone Omnivore 4 Burner Griddle
Thermoworks: Signals, Billows, Thermopens, Thermopops, Nodes, bunch of silicone stuff, and more!
OnlyFire Rotisserie w/ Basket attachment for the Weber
Vortex for the Weber
Both of Meathead's books!
Way too many BBQ related accessories, tools, and doo-dads!
The one in Kentucky (three/four years ago) had some very well built grills outside for sale from Old Country BBQ Pits. Was fun to imagine dragging one of those home.
And the Bucc'ees Nutz are like crack for sugar addicts. Didn't get a chance to go for the BBQ, line was looooong.
