I went to an Aldi near me, once. Didn’t buy anything, the store was small and seemed to have very little selections. I wasn’t impressed, but I don’t know if that’s typical of all their stores. I remember telling my friend I was with, “this place sucks, I won’t be back.”Last edited by Panhead John; June 10, 2025, 07:04 PM.

Panhead John My experience was exactly the same. Few selection, pre-packaged produce, very little meat, etc. Mostly brands I'd never heard of.
Glad I didn't waste a quarter!!

Aldi will always hold a special place in my heart. While in college, our local Aldi sold ground turkey for ... wait for it ... 40 cents a pound. Quality was beyond questionable, but that crap kept me alive for 4 years.
I wouldn't touch it with a stick now

Haven’t been in a while. They usually have good cheese and deli. I’ve looked, but never bought any meat (or produce).

Aldi could never be our main grocery store, but we go there regularly. Prices are good to great, but selection is limited. Our Aldi has Smithfield spare ribs for $1.99/lb this week. I also like their Carolina Gold sauce.

I was just going to say the same. Smithfield spares $1.99/lb.
Lots of them. Fresh fruits n veggies are nonexistent.
Look alike, sound alike cookies n crackers from Europe. Not Brand name.
Prices are reasonable.Last edited by Alan Brice; June 10, 2025, 08:50 PM.

Current line-up of cookers: Oklahoma Joe's Bronco Pro, Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050, Blackstone ProSeries 4 Burner 36" griddle, Weber Performer Deluxe and Weber Smokey Joe.
I go to Aldi sometimes for things such as trail mix, fruit, deli meat and cheese, and meat if I see anything that looks good. Meat selection is minimal, usually.
The small size of the store is a good thing, imho. I can get in and out very quickly.

I should also say that the one aldi I’ve been to (BF was looking for a particular holiday packaging thing for his work at the time). It was dirty and gross. Maybe my standards are too high, but…. 🤢

Sure that wasn't a Euro Aldi, similar to our Dollar Generals.

Jerod Broussard same difference… much like our regional “dollar stores” advertising “steak” for a dollar. I have one next to a mom and pop pet store I frequent to support local.

SheilaAnn , wow, that is a strange experience. As Jerod Broussard hinted, the only 'dirty' Aldi I ever saw was in Spain, but that is the 'other' Aldi, which is the one that owns TJ's (Aldi Nord). Every Aldi I've been to in the US, dating back to the mid-90's, has been clean. Sometimes industrial, but never dirty or gross.
Fun fact, I live in the same neighborhood as one of Aldi's building designers.

Cant say I dislike Aldi. Their prices are good and the quality is good. Never tried their meat. Our frustration is that they do not stay well stocked.

My wife likes to pop by Aldi for the discounted prices of German chocolates. They don't have much that interests us but sometimes their produce is better priced than Publix. It depends on the store I suppose. We had one of the small ones in our neighborhood that was pretty terrible and had almost no produce. Then a very large Aldi opened up nearby and it really isn't that bad.
I don't buy the meat there. Eggs and milk are a good buy. But now that egg prices have dropped dramatically that isn't as important.

I’m a minority here. Maybe it is because I grew up with depression area parents, But Aldi is our basic go to store and we shop Albertsons for sales. We usually don’t buy meat alt Aldi, not because of a quality issue, but because we shop sales for meat at Albertsons.
Because so many of the brands are Aldi’s’ and they generally put the barcode of all six sides checkout is faster that most chain stores. In addition, any employee can hop to an additional register if the one checkout line is too long.
For sure the variety is limited at Aldi, and if you are looking for name brands it is not the place to go. While all the Aldi’s are basically the same there are variations based on location of the store. Like almost any store Aldi shines in some ways, but falls short in others. I think if you shop store brands at supermarket chains Aldi’s store brands are at least as good and less expensive. If price is never an issue, for sure Aldi is not your go to place. I know this won’t play well in the Pit, but with Aldi prices my wife and I make Black Bean Tofu Hash for $.53 per serving. Like I said I am a minority here.
