A couple weeks ago I decided we needed to go out for dinner. I was bummed because I had a itch for bbq and I would have to drive from home in Birch Run to Lansing if I wanted really good bbq. I'd tried most of the places within 20 miles and so far only Homeboy, which is only open in the summer, was worth going to for some really good Q.
The next day it was still on my mind and even though I'd done it before, I did a Google search. Something new popped up. And in of all places Flint. Definitely not the best market for anything these days since the water crisis.
At the end of a pilot car job that next week, I had to drive home through Flint and decided to check this place out. HO BOY! Winner, winner, bbq dinner.
Scratch Bbq set up shop in the old Fuddruckers building, just off Miller rd on Austin Parkway. This place is completely country. The only thing missing is the peanut shells on the floor. Easy, lay back casual place with spectacular bbq. Smoke ringed, fatty, juicy brisket. Pulled pork done right. Smokey chicken halves and their own bbq sauce on all the tables.
Thank goodness for itches. I can hardly wait for the next one. As far as Flint is concerned, I think they may be making a come back.
