Niles Michigan
Hello pit friends. Can anyone recommend where to eat and what to do in and around Niles, MI? Also, curious to know, being so close to Chicago, if I would be able to score a true C style deep-dish pizza in the Niles region. Thanks in advance.Last edited by DTro; May 7, 2022, 07:26 AM.Tags: None

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Maverick 732, DigiQ, and too much other stuff to mention.
When we were in that area, we used to go to Wheatberry Tavern. I went to look it up, and it’s permanently closed. It looks like they are a victim of the pandemic. That would have been a damn good recommendation, too.
The last time we were out that way was 2018. Fiddler’s Hearth in South Bend is really interesting Irish pub fare. Frankie’s BBQ, also in South Bend, is Chicago aquarium style bbq. They have a location in Mishawaka as well (adjacent to South Bend). Frankie’s is pretty good. You’re looking at a half hour drive maybe.
Getting a little further away, The Chubby Trout in Elkhart IN has pretty good fish, including fresh perch and walleye when they’re in season.
Also, there is a Portillo’s in Mishawaka. You have to. It’s one of those places you wish you lived near, because you won’t be able to try everything that you want to try. I’ve had the hot dogs and the Italian beef, and I still think of them.

What to do? If you like football, the College Football Hall of Fame is in South Bend. It’s a pretty good HOF. Notre Dame is right there, park in a side lot and walk around the beautiful campus. If you like to gamble, there are a couple casinos near by, Four Winds and Blue Chip, both in New Buffalo. We’ve been to Four Winds and they’re okay.
You’re also right near the Michigan Dunes National Park: beach, swimming, hang gliding, fishing, hiking.
