Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

I'm in Lexington for tonight on my way back home. South side.
Is there any really good barbecue here that you know of? Or even any other great food that's a can't miss kind of thing?
I see one called Proud Mary's, riverside honky tonk. Sounds nice. And then a handful of chains. Not terribly interested in chains unless you know they're great.
You have already been to the one I would recommend down I-75 in Richmond. A little further south you can now experience Buc-ee's, if you're into that.
More on the north side of Lexington (it's not a real big city) is a place called Red State BBQ, which I have been wanting to try. Maybe check that one out and report back?
Dang, I didn't get there. I remember now that you recommended this nearly 2 yrs ago when I was in Richmond but forgot about it. Next time! I hope to come back next year late summer/early fall and I WILL remember this. If you get there first, please report back.
Not BBQ, but my son and I made a point of having hot browns a couple of times when we visited Lexington and Louisville on a pseudo-Bourbon Trail trip last year.

My wife found a place called J Render's Southern Table & Bar. About 3 mi from where we stayed. The place looked nice inside, classic modern bar & grill atmosphere. BBQ looked good, the menu said "smoked up to 14 hrs" yada yada. We split the 4-meat platter; brisket, ribs, 1/4 chicken, and pulled pork. There was zero smoke flavor on the BBQ meat, and zero salt or rub, sadly. Think pulling meat out of the package and tossing it into your oven with no thought to any seasonings. And I'm not exaggerating there- NO salt or rubs. To their credit it was cooked properly, and ribs were the 'fall off the bone' type. Their sauces were really good though! (Sigh....'relying on the sauce to make it BBQ' strikes again). My sons got different sandwiches (cubano & chicken sammy) they were really good, I sampled a bite or two. Skip the BBQ meats here though, I've had better BBQ at Ruby Tuesday and that's no lie.
