Meathead's house, incredulously, isn't on the list but the places that did make the cut look pretty legit. I've personally been to Smoque a few times and agree their brisket would match well against the best Texas offerings.

#9 Rub's Backcountry BBQ is the way and the light. It's all hardwood smoke, all the time. Have had the big three there, and all were great. Jared does a BYOB meal/class that is great. Way the hell up north, though. (and I live pretty far North, and it's still a long trip up there). Truffled mac and cheese was good, as were beans, but the cornbread, as presented a couple years ago was a weird, weird thing that I would never make or order again.
#11 Smoque, is really the original of non-aquarium places in Chicago. Any place that has a manifesto, explaining why they do what they do (like why they have fries), gets at least a sampling from me. It is close to my old apartment, walking distance really, and fairly close to the condo, wife and I just got from there last month and loved everything. They get hot links from some place in Texas that I love. Good brisket, good St. Louis cut spares... like the peach cobbler. Other sides are adequate, not great.
#8 Lillie's Q. It was closed for renovation after having a fire when we tried to go there (no notice on the website). Have a bottle of their hot smoky sauce, which we've almost worked through, which I like on my chuckie, and on brisket, but not really for pork. Wife likes it okay. Been meaning to go back.
Haven't gone to an aquarium place, like #5 Honey 1, or #12 Uncle J's, but probably worth investigating next time I get south (infrequent occurrence).

What? No Twin Anchors? Are they crazy? If it was good enough for Old Blue Eyes, its good enough for me.
I have been to Dinosaur BBQ, but in New York, love that place. They have a great cook book too.

OK, I am not claiming to be an expert, but I am kind of fat, so I guess I know some Q.
1) Barn and Company - I like Gary and have both of his books, but his staff is horrible. I have been there three times and all three times have had a really rude waiter. Went once with a Groupon and the girl gave me a 5 minute explanation on how you are supposed to tip on the original total not the discounted total when she dropped off the check. I agree with that normally but unfortunately that was the first time we had seen her since the food was dropped off, both our cocktail and water glasses had been dry for some time. Pit Master Wivott was not in that time to explain why his waitress did not get a good tip.
2) Chucks Southern Comforts - dinner is good, but weekend brunch is fantastic!!!! Go on Sunday Morning it is worth a drive.
6) Honkey Tonk - I give the food a solid A, not an A+, but when they have a good band, THAT PLACE IS REALLY FUN!
8) Lillie's Q - Really Overrated
11) Smoque - I really do love this place. I will wait in line to get this food.
Missing from the List:
- Twin Anchors - Not "The" best ribs in town, but they are good and the place is SO Chicago. Try to go at least 4 times a year
- Hog Wild - Long lines but a fun place, Get The Pork Chops! The Pork Chops are the reason to go there. and their red potatoes in butter
Just a few thoughts
