I was in Conyers most of the week - Mom had pneumonia and was hospitalized. She is home now and doing well. At 94 any illness is a challenge though. As an aside, she was in Emory St Joseph's and the level of care was excellent.
Anyway, because I am so jealous of the TX meatup crews Q pics, I decided to stop at Fox Brothers on my way home yesterday. I had never been but I have heard all of the hype. I went to the original location on DeKalb Ave. The restaurant is in a pretty nice neighborhood. Parking is not great - I parked a ways away on a residential street. It was right around 5 and the place was packed. Since I was on my way home, a 2 hour drive, I just ordered a rack of ribs, a pound of brisket and 4 jalapeño cheddar sausages. No sides. The total came in just north of $90 with tax - the rack and the brisket were $30 each and the sausages were $6 each.
The best thing was the ribs. They were cooked perfectly, great bite and the seasoning was on point. A savory rub, not too sweet. Sauce on the side. I would definitely get these again.
The sausage was good. The casings were snappy, but I thought the pork grind was a little overdone. I like the meat a little chunkier if that makes sense. The flavor was good though.
The brisket was disappointing. I got half lean and half fatty. It was not tough, but pulling a slice apart required some elbow grease. And it was a little bland. I don't think I'll get that again.
The cups of BBQ sauce were pretty good. Tomato based but not overly sweet.
I would go back for the ribs. Next time I'll try some sides and the pulled pork and chicken. If you decide to go, be prepared to wait. My food came out in around 25 minutes for a to go order; I am not sure how long the wait was for a table.
