    BBQ in Aurora

When I come up from Alabama to visit my daughters, I try a new BBQ place in the Aurora area. G-Que is pretty good and they have an ice cream place as part of the restaurant. I liked Brother’s as well. I wanted to like Hickory House (“Best Ribs in Colorado”) because it has a nice location and decor and was on Guy Fieri’s DDD. Ribs were ok but not a lot of meat on the bone, brisket and pulled pork was unimpressive, but the catfish was pretty good. A local confirmed that it doesnt live up to the claim. Headed home to some Bama BBQ tomorrow. Will continue the quest later.

I have not visited G-Que but I have heard it is one of the better spots. I don’t know if they are still around, but there was a shop that sold smokers and all the stuff that we need….or want…for our cooking habits near the downtown area, just west of I25. I can’t remember the name of the place, as it’s been a while since I was there. But they were always fun to talk to and had some things I couldn’t find here in NM when it came to rubs and sauces. Could be another fun stop for you next trip.

I’ll see if I can find some additional spots for you. I’m usually in Denver area 3-4 times a year but can ask my colleagues for some spots.

Didn't know GCue existed, don't really get down to that area. Good to know if I'm ever down there. Never eaten in a DDD place that was any good,

Alabama White Sauce. Do you like it and is it a regular sauce around Alabama or is it just a Bob Gibson gimmick?

I like it…it’s a vinegary tang that pairs well with chicken and a good seasoning.

I like it but I always thought it was funny that out-of-state talking heads would say Alabama is known for its white sauce. I’m 60 and I’ve been eating barbecue all my life, and I’ve really only been exposed to it for the last 10 years. It is definitely a north Alabama thing, and Gibson is the standard. I don’t eat it with pork, brisket, or ribs. It’s just a chicken sauce for me and one of the few I apply during the smoke.
