    Heritage BBQ SJC

BF took me here for my birthday today. My former employee works here, so it was nice to see him. They gave us the hook up. Watched one put guy finish up some tri-tips while making small talk. They were everything over white oak.

We skipped the line (just a few dirty looks!). But the line moved fast, so no hard feelings. I asked what we should get and my friend told the cashier to make us a platter. It was roughly a half commercial sheet tray. 😳🤩🥳

starting from the bottom left and moving clockwise:
Mac and cheese. Cavatappi with their sauce and toasted bread crumbs. Stayed creamy the whole time.
carolina mustard style sauce. Great tang!
pickled cucumbers. Crunchy and a good counter balance for the rich meats.
House bbq sauce, chunky and very tasty.
    house pastrami. It was ok.
brisket. It was good. I expected more smoky like the beef rib.
Below the next sauces are pickled red onions, jalapeños and bread and butter pickles.
    creamy banana bread pudding.
    house made beans. Friggin delicious!!!!
housemade andouille sausage. Flavor profile was nice, but a little grainy for my taste.
pulled pork. I dipped it in both sauces.
char siu (left of red onions) it was tasty, but I like mine better 😜
tri tip slice. Sliced too thick.
beef rib. My fav of the whole tray?

not shown: pit guy saw us eating and brought over spare ribs. They had just the right amount of pull. Delicious!

we have lunch and dinner for the next few days!

Yum! If I had friends treat me like that on my birthday I would be over 300 years old by now! 😉

Now that, is a platter. (I love the vibrant color of the mustard sauce....mine always seem to tends towards brownish-yellow.)

Nice birthday present. That's a bit of a trek you to get some good BBQ! I live a lot closer, but won't be going back. As you kind of noted, what you make pleases you more than what they make, plus Heritage is pretty pricey. Plus, we don't have an "in" to beat the line there. As a gift, though, pretty sweet!
