Little Miss BBQ, 2 locations. Both are excellent. Original, by airport, gets you close to their huge cookers.

Seconding the two places mentioned above. As far as Mexican food goes, the place I would have recommended isn’t at the location I’ve been to anymore. Matta’s near downtown Mesa. I haven’t been to the newer location yet in East Mesa.

There are taquerias galore around here depending on where you’re at. Some are really good, decent and some you take your chances lol.

a place I loved getting takeout for lunch when I worked closer to downtown was El Norteño, a bit north of downtown phoenix. It has seating but it’s outdoors. It’s still there but I haven’t been since 2006.

Ditto on Little Miss. if you happen to go to the original location, they will give you a tour of the pit room.

Popo's for mexican is by far the best in Phoenix IMHO.
