Kamados are very useful tools whose value lies in doing many things pretty well, but they are not the best at any of them. Like any tool, the more familiar you become at using one, the better you get at overcoming its limitations, and also taking advantage of its considerable strengths.
I run in streaks between the BGE and the Weber kettle. For a long time I was convinced that the Weber was the better tool for grilling, but this last summer I used the BGE almost exclusively, even for burgers and dogs, and there really is no difference... and the BGE is far easier to use for bbq. So, yeah, if you’re looking for one, and it’s a deal, then, why not!
I've been a KJ owner for 4 years. Once you learn the way they cook you'll love one. They really hold moisture, which will affect your time and temp choices. I got mine way too hot once, we're talking pegged the gauge, and caused a couple of cracks. Their warranty was easy and they replaced every thing I had cracked. I don't have any complaints. I'd buy a bigger one if the wife wouldn't shoot me.
