Ridgid 18V Cordless Butane Heat Gun (Tool Only) $39.99

Seems like this would make a great charcoal starter. It uses butane.

Yeah it does - my heat gun is electric and would start coals well on high, but I hate using electricity. I have the propane snow torch, but nothing starts coals as well as a chimney on a turkey fryer...

I don't use a heat gun personally but I know a lot of kamado owners like heat guns for starting their lump inside the cooker and I'm guessing a propane burning heat gun is probably quite a bit more effective than the electric version you or I have.

Attjack good point - I don't have anything right now that I can't use a chimney for, so I don't go get the torch very often. I use a smaller one that's all hand-held occasionally on food - both meat and other stuff. I like to put a burn on mashed potatoes.

My electric heat gun starts the charcoal in my primo in less than a few minutes so I see no need to use anything else. The charcoal I made seems to light easier as a side note.

I just might need to get one of those. I don’t "need" it but I might need one anyway. LOL
With the exception of is year, my judo group does a couple of outdoor events every year...starting with breakfast for a couple of us. I’m a huge fan of my Weber chimneys...but that does have a certain cool factor. And has to be better than the charcoal lighting contraption my friend brought out last year.
