    Traeger at Costco

    Traeger at Costco:

I was walking through Costco the other day (St. Charles, IL) and there was a factory rep (i think, maybe just some sort of sales man) there with 4 models of Traeger grill set up. He said they were about $400 off. I can't confirm this, but I did take one picture, and it was a Silverton for $699, which, from a quick search online, seems to be a pretty good price. I'm not sure the details of the sale, how widespread it is, how long it lasts, or whether it will travel from location to location. He said he'd be in St. Charles until November 10.

Costco hosts a number of travelin' shows. They also do a K amado Joe show if you are interested. Trager was at our local Costco a few weeks ago.

Yep, when I was a Traeger owner this was always nice to see them coming. I would stock up on pellets.

Only if your Costco has them...

That’s a lot of dinosaur chicken nuggets right there.

They come here, as well. I have a couple of friends who bought them in the last couple of years during the road shows. It was the cheapest price they could find at the time. So if you are considering getting one and are asking if the price is right, I believe it is.

Be careful which Traeger your buying at Costco. They tend to sell the lower level grills. If they have a Pro 650 take it.

One advantage of buying a Traeger at Costco is easy returns if you don't like it. I ended up returning mine.

usually the agreement with Costco is they must sell it for at least 20-25% off retail.. Kamado Joe does the same thing with their "special events"..

Well thanks for busting my bubble. I guess my dreams of owning a Treager one day is over.

I ended up buying the small Traeger ($350 or so) at Costco. Not sure if I'm convinced on the product, But I wanted to try something a little more user friendly when I want to grill/smoke than my kimono.

I did the "chicken challenge" that they recommended. Basically, they gave some free rub and said to try two whole chickens on the grill. I did it the same day. Yes, the chickens came out great. Yes, I used a TON of pellets.

I'm more of a ribs bbq'er. I shudder to think how many pellets I'd have to use for a low and slow. But I'll figure that out some other time.

If anyone has a Traeger, I ask: do you find that the outdoor temp significantly effects the pellet usage? On my chickens, I filled the hopper to the brim....and still ran out. It was a cold day.

I live a few blocks from the ocean and there can be a rather cool breeze, even here in Southern Calif.

When I bought my Traeger Junior Elite, they told me a thinner gauge steel was used than on the more expensive models. I didn't think much about it at the time, but I did notice mine had trouble keeping the temp up until I adjusted the p setting through that little hole.

So I would say yes, especially on the $350 model like you and I have, I think the temp has an effect.
