At the fear of being disloyal to Meathead... this is maybe my favorite BBQ book. Maybe it's Meathead. For a beginner, it is exactly what it says it is... How to Grill... I think Meathead would be my preferred second book for someone who has never used a grill before, as his techniques are better, but this has nearly everything, with step by step pictures.
No idea what it's like on Kindle... I have a copy that is falling apart in paper.
I really liked this book too. Very easy to use a reference for most things you're likely to grill. It's ideal for a beginner. My copy was falling apart too but I just picked up another at goodwill for $5 that's in better condition. I've purchased several of his books that way including a signed copy. All $5.
For the first year that I used the book extensively I always had a certain impression of what Raichlen must be like judging from his photo on the cover. When I finally discovered he had a TV show and watched it I was surprised to find that his personality was just about the opposite of what I had imagined.
