Thanks, I won't need concrete so that'll save me a little. Just had a 500sqft slab poured a month ago.

Then you won't need the column bases either. Post pics when you get it built.

Thanks, brother. I'm partial to mine as well. But the prefab is probably a great option for some folks.

      No doubt, Scout...

They actually have one of these erected at the Home Depot by my house. It also has an adjacent pitched solid roof unit that really looks nice. Both together would be a fine setup !! Not sure of the pricing.

ID:	1078253 Similar to mine, too. Regretting going with shade cloth instead of roof. Will probably swap next year.

That and a roof would do a better job protecting the teak furniture.

Do you ever cook in there?

Not as often as I should. Have a few times for grandkids and once just for wife and me. Was getting ready to invite neighbors and then virus ramped up again. It's kind of far from house, so mostly cook on back porch.

So yeah, I've always wondered... what good is a pergola? Seriously. It keeps off neither rain nor sun. So.... is it just like, decorative?

My thoughts exactly. Why have a roof that doesn't keep out the rain? Or the sun? That's why Attjack put some metal roofing on top of his... and why I built a pavilion versus a pergola out by the pool.

It rains cats and dogs here. If I was in Southern California or another area where rain was scarce I would probably go for the grapevine.

We have one and covered it with Coolaroo shade sails. The area is on the west side of the house and it can get super hot. The sails literally drop the temp at least 20 degrees. I enjoy sitting out under it getting shaded sun while drinking coffee in the morning or grilling before the sun goes down. Smoke goes up and through it and has no chance of getting trapped and possibly blowing around in the cooking space. The way our home and architecture is designed it just works better for us.
