I'm waiting for a decent sale on a NEW item (greater than 20%). Not the minimal discount they usually offer on open box item. They offer great products (have a couple) but one will pay a premium. I get it's their prerogative to offer a big discount.
Somehow I managed to resist the initial urge to buy. I have a infrared of the pistol grip variety that I use on my flat top, I have a Thermapen MK4 and a Classic Thermapen so I think I'm good to go for awhile.
I love my thermopen, that being said I have sold a lot of thermometers in my HVAC wholesaler days and infrared is not accurate. Notice they give you the accuracy of the probe but not the infrared. the problem is that any little thing affects the reading: hi-gloss, gaps in your grate etc. I can not see where this would be useful, just my .02

I suspected my infrared was not accurate. I'm guessing it might be 10 degrees off or maybe even more. But on my flat top I'm just looking for a ball park number and where the hot and cool spots are. For that it works.
