And the word came upon us, and the word moved across the face of the world, and the word was HAM. Apparently it’s Ham Week here in the Carolinas. There’s all kinds for all kinds of ham-eating people, and it’s time to stock up if you want to. The secondary special is Beef Rib Roast, which can be had for ~$7.99 a pound here and there.
I dont usually post the specials at Publix, and this has traditionally been their time of year for their Annual Beef Rib Roast special, but it’s not quite so special this year. I have a friend who’s a meat manager at a Publix, and he was disappointed to tell me that they’re doing it, but it’s only one week instead of 2, and it’s $9.99 a pound. “There’s just no way to get it lower,” he lamented, “but at least it’s USDA Choice. The others aren’t.” I’ll take his word or it. Publix does also feature a USDA New York Strip Loin Roast for $7.99 / lb, which is also a very nice cut, and a Pork Loin Center Rib Roast for $3.99 / lb. So there are options, in case you find yourself trapped in a Publix this weekend.
So anyway, Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat, which makes no sense since nobody really eats them anymore, and I wish you all a Happy Merry Everything Holiday, including love, laughter, quiet seething, and barbecued meats.
