And the Annual Turkey Derby is in full swing!
Seriously, it’s about time, with T-Day only two weeks away. Food Lion and the Teet have thrown their hats in at 29 cents. LIDL still leads with 25 cents, and ALDI is trailing the pack with 97-cent Butterballs. But hey, they’re Butterballs. Heck, even Publix (whom I don’t really cover here) has their Turkeys at 49 cents. All the chains have imposed hard limits, tho. FL and HT are limiting us to ONE bird, and the others are limiting us to 2. As I said last week, I’m curious to see if they can track this across multiple visits.
But along with the birds, comes the everything else, with an additional hint of Christmas panic on top. It’s a good time to stock up on stock, for instance. Also, instant mashed potatoes, soups, cheeses and butter. These will keep through the coming year until needed, and things may be getting tight for some of us, or for people we know. It’s good to look ahead, I guess. It may come to pass that the only thing between any of us and total oblivion might be a packet of potato flakes and a can of soup.
I’m fretting again, probably needlessly. Impending holidays (or crises) can do that to me.
