Kingsford Pro On Sale At Costco and a Kirkland’s Brand Charcoal Sighting

I had to make a Costco run today for steaks and while I was there, wanted to see if they had any Kirkland’s Charcoal. I stopped in the general vicinity of where they keep it and spoke with one of their helpful and friendly workers. I asked him a few questions about the Kirkland Brand and why it was so hit and miss finding it in stock. He said they try to keep a fairly even inventory among all their stores, so one location doesn’t keep a lot more in stock than the others. He also mentioned to me that their Kirkland charcoal is a hot seller and it goes quick when they get some. We also expressed our mutual disappointment with Costco not carrying charcoal in the “offseason”. He said he uses the Kirkland brand himself and agreed with me that there’s no BBQ off-season in Houston. After a little more chit chat I asked him where the charcoal was. He walked me around the corner to big pallet of Kingsford Pro. I said, “Sorry but I was looking for the Kirkland brand.” He said they were out and didn’t have any. As another associate walked up he asked her if they had any, just to be sure. She said no, I’m sorry but we don’t have any.

Ok I thought, I’ll just get some Kingsford Pro then, it’s on sale anyway. I put a 2 bag pack in my cart, then I decided to look for myself to make sure they didn’t have any Kirkland’s. I walked back to an area where I’ve seen charcoal sold before.

LO AND BEHOLD I FOUND SOME!

Even though the Kingsford was on sale, I put my bags back and got the Kirkland’s Brand. I’ve been told they were out of stock on this stuff before. On another visit last year, after being told they were out, I did the same thing, walked to the main charcoal area and found me some Kirkland’s. Word of advice, if you’re looking for the Kirkland’s brand and an associate tells you they’re out, go look for yourself just to make sure. Also Stock Up on it while you can, you’ll never know when they’ll have more.

Between a local Costco's and a local HEB, you are living in Foodie Nirvana. I'm envious.

I certainly don’t have the scenery some of y’all have, but living in the big city does have some perks. I’ve got probably 3 Costco’s within 15-20 minutes of me and that many HEB’s as well.

And you saved a penny a pound.

I went to Costco in Southlake, TX last week, no Kirkland but I did buy 2 bags of Kingsford Pro for the $5.50 off price.

I have not seen any Kirkland but managed six bags of Kingsford Pro at close to 50 cents a pound. Always great starter chimney fuel.

Sounds good. Next weekend I’ll be at the ol’ battle axe’s house. How about that following Saturday June 15th? Troutman One restaurant suggestion could be Mama Ninfa’s on Navigation? Luckily there’s no shortage of great places here. Maybe Steve has a suggestion if he can make it.

I've been to Ninfa's in College Station and Beaumont but not the original. Good choice. There are so many choices in Houston that it is hard to pick one.

One thing to consider: Sunday June 16th is Father's Day. Not sure if anyone has weekend long plans. I'm tied up on the 23rd. Any other Houston area members interested? Michael_in_TX, BFlynn, lonnie mac

I like both and when Kingsford Pro is on sale they cost about the same per pound. They both light fast and burn hot and clean. I like Kirkland better because it definitely burns longer.

ID:	1607675 but they didn't have any. But I did find this to try. 40# for $10.99. Looks like a good mix of flavors. Says 100% natural. Not sure that means no fillers. For the price I figured I had to give it a try. Usually use B&B for both pellets and charcoal (from Academy, HEB, or Walmart).

I managed to get a bag of this a few months back before the "end of bbq season". Yeah, that's a thing at Costco. It's only in the low 70's during winter, no wonder nobody cooks outdoors.

I just found some Kirkland here in Chicago! First time I’ve actually jumped on it, so we shall see how it works.
