    Cowboy Lump Charcoal Walmart

It is on sale for $12.97. Anyone. have an opinion on this based on use? Its $5 more at Lowes. I was there today looking for their briquettes and none available. I was hesitant on getting this and glad I held off.

I just checked on line I can get my favorite B&B lump from Walmart for 14.97 for 20 pounds. That’s about 75 cents a pound. The Cowboy is 12.97 for 15 pounds. That’s about 86 cents a pound. I didn’t care for the only bag of Cowboy I’ve ever had. I can get the lump I like for less. Win-Win.

Many seem to not like Cowboy but I think it's a good value buy, especially at that price.

Lots of smaller pieces but still pretty usable. I wouldn't use it for a long slow cook unless you sort it by size and pick out all the uniform pieces. I've bought the giant bag a couple of times when it was at Costco

Thanks for the feedback. I'll pass on their lump. I do use their briquettes and like them. I use B&B briquettes for long cooks. I will look into their lump pricing locally.

The only bag of Cowboy lump I tried had lots of small pieces and dust, sparked a ton, and I wasn't too pleased. Maybe it was a battered bag or pallet at Lowe's or wherever I got it, but it was bad enough I didn't try it again.

Especially with charcoal when there are SO many choices, I just don’t think it is worth it to take a bet on some charcoal that has been panned by users here. This is one of those lumps that people are disappointed by and the amount of solid reviews has been small compared to the larger amount of sad reviews. If you want to branch out, try B&B and if that doesn’t satisfy, let us know.

Thanks, if B&B lump performs like their briqs and charlogs I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

I bought the giant bag from Costco a year or two ago. Like jfmorris - lots of sparks, dust, small pieces and a very wide range of sizes overall. Some were 3" diameter logs a foot long. I used it for my Santa Maria grill and it was fine, but lousy for anything I tried low and slow. I'd pass on it next time.

Yeah - I had lots of trouble with it burning hotter and faster than I wanted at the time.
