    Picked up some decently priced chuckies!

    A month with daughter and SiL drew down the freezer to the point I can stock up some.

    Gerrity’s is a small 10 store chain here in NEPA, mostly Scranton and Wilkes Barre but with one store in Bethlehem; they are associated with The Fresh Grocer from SEPA/Philly area, but this deal is limited to the Gerrity’s branch.

    CAB USDA Prime chuck roast, “shoulder steaks” ie pot roast: $5.99/lb. If you want Choice, it’s $4.99/lb.

    That’s pretty cheap around here for Certified Angus prime. Choice Angus chuck is comparable, anywhere from $5.49-$7.99/lb, but the premium for prime is a serious step up, if you can even find it. Sometimes the visual difference between the two isn’t much, but in this case, it was pretty obvious.

    Online butchers are about $16/lb, with Porter Road coming in cheapest at $14.50/lb for dry aged.

    One for pot roast next week, two for the freezer.

      Looks good and nice price. We're heading next week to Market Basket a family owned chain about an hour away with a great meat selection, price and butcher service. I'm depleted so it's going to be an expensive trip.

        My wife cooked a chuck roast with potatoes and carrots in her Dutch oven Wednesday. We are still eating leftovers . I love a good roast.

          Great score! Hard to find cubical chucks around me, they want to cut them thinner as opposed to cubical, like huge steaks, and I have to stack two on each other when I make pulled beef.

            How do you cook your chuck steaks, hot 'n fast? Sous vide? I have a couple of them in the freezer--never bought them before because chuck roasts here are so plentiful, but I'd like to give these chuck steaks a try.

            fzxdoc I know you aren’t asking about the chuck roasts I got, but these are sometimes also called “shoulder steaks”. They’re about 2” thick or so, and they’re the typical chuck roasts we get here in the Northeast, these and 7 bone chucks. We rarely see chuck roll, chuck eye, or square cut like Huskee mentions. Click Akayushi used to sell square cut; those were great!

            fzxdoc I don't usually cook chuck steaks, chuck eye steaks though, yes, like small cheaper ribeyes. If I did chuck steaks I'd be tempted to sv one alingside a hot n fast to see which is best.

          Nice find. My local grocer will have Select chuckies on sale for $4.99/lb once in a while, but never anything of that grade!

                I've never seen CAB prime, always choice, interesting. Mosca Is that a CAB branding thing or is it USDA prime?

                Edit to say just noticed your post does say USDA, cool
