Creekstone Farms Strip Loins on Special

    They are $159

    #2
Of course they did.🙂 Just bought a strip loin from them using Mosca ‘s code and while I may have saved a few bucks waiting for the sale I did note that the one I received recently was on the high end of the weight range while all I’ve bought when on sale are usually at the low end of the weight range. Still a good deal no matter when you buy.

Huskee Yep, I bet you did!
I remember my reply in a previous post about this. I’m still sticking with my H.L. Mencken view of the world where good things do not happen. Most will be tickled with the extra 24% discount on top of a sale item. All I see is someone being fired for not blocking a code that allows an extra 24% off a sale item, and thinking he deserved it.🙂

These seem to be on sale more often than they're on regular price... I may have to get one!

They don't make ribeyes, that's why.

Actually they haven’t had the strip loins on sale for quite a while. Been watching. I bought one for Christmas at full price.

While they do have sales every few months on full loins, it has been maybe a year, give or take, since strip loins were on sale. far more affordable than rib loins and IMO just as good.

The discount code that Mosca posted works for this sale, I just bought two 12-14 lb ribeye roasts and a strip loin. Discount code knocked $95.00 off in addition to the sale price for a total savings of $241.00. My plan is to dry age all three for steaks.

I was going to post this, thanks Draznnl !

Also of note the Prime rib loins are on sale as well, $275 down from $315, only 13%. A short time ago they went on sale like this but after a bit the sale dropped another 30 to $245...impossible to tell if that will happen again but I'm holding out for that.

Interesting: I was charged $44.00 in sales tax when I placed my order yesterday. Creekstone just refunded the sales tax so my order is even less that I thought. I'm pretty happy with this order although it isn't as big of a deal as the last time I ordered ( $235.00 for 18+ lb ribeye roasts will probably never happen again).

I actually like their strip loins much better than the rib roasts. At least the ones I’ve gotten so far.

Just ordered one of these. They ship fresh, not frozen, so this is the perfect time of year to order it - definitely won't get too hot in transit! I'll use about half of it to cut into steaks, and leave the rest for a roast. It's an excellent deal, less than half the cost per pound than if one ordered strip steaks.

Troutman Too late... see my most recent post below, I cut up some steaks and vac sealed everything up right after I took delivery. Will try the wet aging thing with something else down the line.

Troutman At this current time I have little interest in dry aging. I might try a steak or two eventually. I do wet age though, it helps improve tenderness w/o a flavor change.

Here's the cut I received from Creekstone today, shipped fresh, but the packaging held temp and the cut was just over 35F, about 2C. 11.5lb/5.2kg total, and it worked out to just under $14/lb all up. Pretty good price for Prime strip, delivered to my door.

I cut 8 steaks from it weighing a bit less than 1lb/450g (a couple of them only about 0.75lb/340g each) along with one 11oz/310g steak that my lovely bride will use to make her signature beef stroganoff one of these days. The remaining 3.8lb/1.7kg I left as a roast. There was a fairly thick fat cap, but I left it alone for now, I can deal with those when I prep 'em to cook in due course.

My order arrived today in good shape.

              Weights are:

              ribeye roast 15.5 lbs

              strip loin #1 14.6 lbs
              strip loin #2 13.3 lbs

              $12.40/lb for all.

The only thing I'm mad about is I intended to order two ribeye roasts and one strip loin but I did the opposite. Alcohol wasn't involved - I swear ( I shouldn't; its a bad habit). Well, alcohol or not I can't have that so I ordered another ribeye roast tonight.

Anywho. Both of mine weighed 14-1/2lbs almost exact.

Dry aging begins, shooting for 50-60 days. After removing the packaging and draining the purge the weights are now:

                Strip loin 1 - 14.1 lbs
                Strip loin 2 - 12.7 lbs
                ribeye primal - 15.3 lbs

The ribeye primal had less purge than the strip loins.

The other ribeye primal that I ordered won't arrive until Wednesday.

My 9-11 pounder is coming tomorrow! I won't be able to use it all immediately - I'm going to cut some steaks right away but there will still be a lot left so I think I'll have to vac-seal the rest.

Is it a crime to freeze it, given that it's shipped fresh? How long should it stay good for if I just leave it sealed in the fridge?

Absolutely NOT a crime! If you can vac seal, those babies will stay good for years. Even tightly wrapping in Saran wrap and loading into a ziploc you squeeze as much air out of as possible will keep fine for many months in the freezer.

DaveD is correct. I’ve thawed vac-sealed steaks that were 3 years old, and they were excellent.
