Yea that model is a little better deal than the Gabby's grill I recently had. Like Bad Hat BBQ I enjoyed live fire cooking so much I sold mine and bought a grilling box (reverse design to a SM). Never been happier. Love live fire cooking.

But if all you are looking for is occasional grilling, those kettle attachments really do the trick. I think my only complaint was it was a gateway drug into a larger unit (not necessarily a bad thing) and you have to be careful with food falling off the edge. On a normal kettle the kettle walls keep things in check. I always thought it would be a design improvement if they bent a small circular 1" angle iron and welded it to the cooking grate.

But that said, enjoy your new toy and show us some results !! Good luck !!

Your design improvement unit already exists, just costs a bit more than the one shown in this thread. It also has a removable grate, makes cleaning easier, and comes with a rotisserie. Costs a bit more, but offers more value (not always appreciated). https://www.amazon.com/only-fire-San...%3Aamzn1.fos.1

Uncle Bob that is quite the improvement except it looks like a cheap Chinese knock off. Those screws or rivets holding it together don't look too sturdy. That was what I did like about the Gabby grill, the whole thing was welded heavy gauge metal. That said, I've moved on from the rinky dink stuff so who cares.

If I still had a kettle this would be on its way to my house. Such a great concept. Actually, if I knew of something like this six years ago I’d probably still have that kettle!

hoovarmin I think some folks here Uncle Bob have this one and like it.

Engineered for authentic open-fire cooking, this grill features an adjustable flywheel for precise heat control.

That's a beauty. One more reason Uncle Bob is my hero

It arrived! Perfect fit on the Weber, and a solid construction. The cooking grate is really the "weakness" here, the powder coating will wear down with heat and will eventually rust out. But if I take care of it (as in do not leave it outside in the elements) it will last for a decent amount of time. Nothing lasts forever after all. Eventually the kettle will rust out, although that could take a decade. Or more.

Another cool thing - next time I go camping I just remove 4 bolts and the thing comes apart and stores flat. Remove the stand up part from the ring part, then unhook the cooking grate. Now I have something I can place in the campground fire pit, light a small fire, then cook over it.

Great camping idea. I’m hoping to put mine together this afternoon.

Ooooh, pretty! Agreed, the grate is the weakness. I keep my oiled and indoors.

Very nice. I like the idea for camping, though those days are behind me. If you are entertaining, having a few friends over some BBQ, the SM attachment is a great conversation piece. And of course you can elevate the food and step away for a few minutes to grab a beer, chat someone up, etc. Enjoy,
