I have a Cuisinart 14cup model that I bought for my late mother in 1977 when they were made in Japan. I don't think they make them in Japan anymore. Unfortunate, because the Japanese made models were incredibly sturdy and many are still going strong today. I have replaced the bowl and lid several times but the motor on my machine is a real beast. It weighs about twice as much as the current models. It may outlive me, and I use my machine a lot.

Hey Attjack, Good call, so maybe I exaggerated on the "twice as much". Hyperbole you know. But it is substantial.

Have you checked out the current model? My guess is they probably weigh about the same.

I have an old one I bought in 1983. Last time I replaced the bowl the service rep at Cuisinart told me to never get rid of it because they were better made than the newer ones. This thing is heavy enough to anchor a boat.

I still have my Cuisinart DLC-8 that I got in 1987. It weights a ton, and still runs pretty well. I just used it last night to make some mayonnaise. Still on the original bowl and lid, too; they sent me a new blade gratis a year or two back, because a recall.

A new food processor is on my wish list.

I don't shop Kohls enough to make saving a few sheckles worth the hassle of being in their email system..
