Kindling Cracker XL King Firewood Splitter $100 at Amazon

Still a little rich for my blood since my hatchet still works but I have always wanted one of these.

It does look cool, but I’ll stick with the hatchet too.

I got the smaller size. The hatchet and axe can go to hades, unless I need the flat side for hammering. Just ordered 4.5 cu ft of Hickory to split on that bad boy.

Great price! They work great and are much safer.

I have had the original smaller one for probably 8 yrs now and it is still in great shape after a lot of use and staying outside year round the past 4 yrs or so. Very little surface rust at all, which is surprising. The stump it always sat on has almost completely rotted away now. But I'm thinking about upgrading to the XL, and that price is intriguing.

Interesting! I'd never seen this format before, but it makes a lot of sense.

Back when I was regularly splitting wood for the fire (> 40 years ago?) I just used some splitting wedges and a sledge hammer. I was much more timid then about swinging a hammer or axe. This looks like a much faster process.

I'll bet you could bore a hole in a round of wood and stick your wedge in there and have something pretty close to that cracker. If you fashioned something to keep the wood upright like the ring on that thing, it would probably be just as good. I might have to give it a try.

The oak I get from my wood guy isn’t typically any bigger than 5-6” so this is the one I have my eye on…

These are great. We have one down at the sauna for making really small splits that burn hot and fast. I highly recommend one of these. Just make sure you mount it to a good, solid base before using it.

I have the XL and it is one of my favorite tools. Beats a hatchet but you'll never realize it until you use one. Speaking from experience. Word of advice, get a 4lb sledge for it, I tried a 3 and the 4 is better.

One of the best purchases I've made in the past few years. Just take a mini sledge and split away....

I have a larger version w/ round bottom - Love that thing

Add a mini-sledge and you are off to the races!
